This is the first of a couple tracks we started last year that pull toward a slightly different place than our other work so far. It's a little less congregational, a little more cryptic. This one in particular wrestles with the paradox of faith--being simultaneously at war and in love with it. The central image came out of Advent last year, with the idea of the Wise Men being led by a light, traveling such a monumental distance for reasons they could not have completely understood. More than any of our other material, this one still feels like a work in progress, but it's also a really fun song to play as a band. If you're listening to it here, I sincerely hope you get the chance to hear it live at an upcoming show. Cheers!
lyrics
V1:
Deep as ages coming
And the desert falls away beneath the eastern sky
I don't know why we're running
A couple years have gone and I can see the end of times
Ch:
But it's all I've ever known
Deeps as hearts can ever go
We're all following a light that we may never know
But I don't think I can let this go, not now
V2:
I think we nearly lost it
The point of all this in the pages we have kept so long
When all along it's moving
The Word was with Him when He breathed us into all we are
If there's a chance in hell, I don't know now
It's the only place I've ever seen us put ourselves
B:
What can change this time, even if You come?
Cause the battle's lost and I've lost my home
The years have gone and all I see is the end of times
