about
Advent is the liturgical season of waiting and longing for the Savior to come and redeem a broken world. While we live in the joy of knowing Christ has come and died for us, the world remains broken, and we long still for all things to be made new by his return. Personally, I connect very deeply to the aching and darkness that Advent remembers, so it's always one of the most prolific times of writing for me. This is a really special song for us, and we've loved having the opportunity to release it in several different venues over the course of this season. We hope you enjoy it as well. --Joe
lyrics
V1:
Out of the long dark night
Out of the cold and cost
Out of the depths we fear
All of the things we've lost
You have been aching long
Waiting for morning's rise
Burning for hope to hold
Burning through salt-swept eyes
Ch:
He will come, born of flesh and blood
By a star, you will see
Do not fear, for the Word of love
Shall draw near
Shall redeem
V2:
Open your eyes, my love
I know it hurts to see
But it will not be long
Sure as your heart still beats
For when it all began
He was the Word who made
Light from the darkest dark,
Love from the dust and clay
Bridge:
He will come to break the darkness' power
He will come to make the nations free
Giving strength to those who are cast down
Giving sight to those who cannot see
So take heart my love and do not fear
Though your hands are torn, your body's weak
Know the Lord your God is sovereign still
Lift your eyes, your heart and watch with me
